Sage is an effective anti-bacterial herb used to treat gingivitis. Brew some fresh sage leaves in a glass of boiling water for about 10 minutes, let it cool off and gurgled the infusion around your mouth 2-3 times a day. Raw honey
Honey has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Apply a little bit of natural raw honey directly on the infection. You may also be interested to read my article about 13 ways to use honey for your health.
Garlic is known to have antibiotic effects. Crush one or two cloves of garlic, and place them on the infected gums. If you have rock salt, add a little bit of it to the crushed garlic, and then place this mixture on the infected gums.
Coconut oil / Vitamin E oil / Olive oil / Neem oil
Virgin coconut oil has anti-bacterial properties and can be used to treat a lot of skin infections. Vitamin E oil can do a lot of the same things. Rub some virgin coconut oil, or vitamin E oil on your gums. Neem bark and its leaves have active ingredients that has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It strengthens the immune system and the body’s resistance to infections. You can also use olive oil that is anti-inflammatory due to many of its healthy components. Take one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and swish it around your mouth for a few minutes and then spit. Don’t swallow it as it contains toxins from the mouth. You may also apply it to gums and rub or massage the gums gently. For best results, repeat the process three times a day.
Clove / Tea tree essential oil
When you do the oil treatment above, you can add a drop or two of clove oil or tea tree oil to the oil you are using. Tea tree oil is highly antiseptic, and clove oil can fight infections as well. It has antibacterial properties, and is very effective in treating gum disease. Chamomile / Ginger / Cinnamon tea
Ginger improves inflammatory condition, and chamomile may help soothe mouth inflammations and keep gums healthy. Cinnamon has strong anti-bacterial effects and has been known to treat infections. To relieve pain and help in the heeling process drink a lot of these teas. Make a tea, take a sip and pass on the gums. You can also gargle the tea as a mouthwash.
Apple cider vinegar + Baking soda
Add one tablespoonful of apple cider vinegar to a cup of water and use it as a rinse after brushing with baking soda. Drink the rest of the water to build up your system and fight gum disease from the inside. Don’t drink undiluted apple cider vinegar as it can erode tooth enamel.
Strawberries + Lemon juice
Strawberries are known to remove tartar due to their acid content. Apart from making the teeth cleaner and whiter, strawberries are also responsible for maintaining good health of gums. Strawberries contain a large amount of vitamin C that helps fight diseases and treat infections. Lemon juice has been known to treat infections too. Place about 3-4 strawberries in a food processor and add to it a tablespoon of organic lemon juice. Use this strawberry and lemon juice mixture to brush on your gums, using a soft toothbrush. Plain unsweetened yogurt
A report published in the Journal of Periodontology credits probiotics as one possible champion of gum health, so eat plain white unsweetened yogurt, and rub a little bit on the gums.
Coenzyme Q10
Has a strong antioxidant effect and improves the oxygen supply to the tissues of the gums and helps in preventing and curing gingivitis.
This green algae helps to relieve, heal and treat gingivitis. Chlorella contains a compound that can enhance immune function and stimulates tissue repair.
Proper nutrition
Avoid consuming simple sugars and alcohol as they increase the accumulation of plaque on the teeth and weaken the immune system. Instead, consume foods rich in fiber such as fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains. The fiber doesn’t attack the bacteria on your teeth but it helps to improve your body’s immune system so you are in a better position to fight bacteria that causes gingivitis.
Brushing your teeth and flossing
Make sure to brush your teeth twice a day. Daily brushing reduces gum infections by 60%, and although you may have bleeding gums, it is important to brush your teeth thoroughly with a soft fiber toothbrush. Brush horizontally on the border between the gums and the teeth so the bristles will penetrate the space between the teeth and gums and will remove the leftover food and plaque. In addition to brushing your teeth with a brush, it is recommended to use a dental floss to clean between the teeth to prevent food from sticking between the teeth resulting in a favorite area for bacteria.
Visit dental hygienist
Visit a dental hygienist at least once a year to remove plaque and tartar. If your gingivitis doesn’t improve or getting worse, see your dentist.

1. Garlic

The harmful effects of sugar are among the few things that most health experts agree on.
Everyone knows that sugar is unhealthy and most health conscious people try to avoid it.
Not surprisingly, all sorts of other sweeteners have become popular, both natural and artificial.One of those is called Agave nectar, a sweetener that is found in various “health foods.”It is claimed to be natural, and marketed as a diabetic-friendly sweetener that doesn’t spike blood sugar levels.However, if you ignore the marketing claims and take a look at what Agave nectar really contains, you will learn that it is actually even worse than plain sugar.
Let me explain why…  What is Agave?
The Agave plant grows natively in the southern U.S. and South America. It is most commonly associated with Mexico.Although most Westerners only recently started hearing of Agave, it has been used in Mexico for hundreds (if not thousands) of years.Back in the day, the Mexicans used it for various purposes and believed it to have medicinal properties.This is what the Agave plant looks like:
The Mexicans also used to boil the sap (sugary circulating plant fluid) to produce a sweetener known as miel de agave.But the most common use of the Agave plant is fermenting the sugars in it to produce the alcoholic beverage called tequila.In fact, tequila is the most common commercial use of Agave today and one of Mexico’s best known export products.Like many plants in their natural state, Agave probably does have some health benefits.However, as is so often the case, when the product is processed and refined it tends to lose some (or all) of these beneficial health effects. This appears to be the case with the refined Agave sweetener that people are consuming today.
How is Agave Nectar Made?

The sweetener commonly sold as Agave nectar would be more accurately labelled as Agave syrup.The truth is… it has very little in common with the traditional sweetener made by the Mexicans.The starting process is the same. They take the plant, then cut and press it to extract the sugary circulating fluid.This fluid is high in sugar, but it also contains healthy compounds like fructans, which are linked to beneficial effects on metabolism and insulin.However, when processed into a syrup, the manufacturers break the fructans down into fructose by exposing the sugary fluid to heat and/or enzymes.This process destroys all of the health promoting properties of the Agave plant, but instead produces the concentrated syrup available on store shelves that is falsely claimed to be healthy.The manufacturing process is similar to how other unhealthy sweeteners are made, such as High Fructose Corn Syrup.So… the sweetener sold as Agave nectar is NOT truly “nectar” – it is a refined, processed sweetener made from Agave nectar.Agave Nectar Does Not Spike Blood Sugar Much The Glycemic Index (GI) is a measure of how quickly the sugar in a food enters your bloodstream.
Woman Wondering About Syrup Generally speaking, the higher the GI rating of a food, the greater the blood sugar spike and the worse it is for your health.Unlike glucose, fructose does not go directly into the bloodstream and therefore doesn’t raise blood sugar or insulin levels in the short-term.This is why high fructose sweeteners are often marketed as “healthy” or “diabetic friendly.”Agave nectar has a very low GI, primarily because almost all of the sugar in it is fructose. It has very little glucose, at least when compared to regular sugar.A recent study in mice compared the metabolic effects of Agave nectar and sucrose (plain sugar) after 34 days. The mice getting agave nectar gained less weight and had lower blood sugar and insulin levels.This is actually what we would expect in a short-term study, as the glucose in plain sugar elevates both blood sugar and insulin levels, whereas fructose does not.That being said… the glycemic index is just one of many things to consider when looking at the health effects of sweeteners.The harmful effects of Agave (and sugar in general) actually have very little to do with the glycemic index but everything to do with the large amounts of fructose… and Agave nectar is very high in fructose.

Sugar and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) contain two simple sugars… about half glucose and half fructose.Although both glucose and fructose look very similar, they have completely different effects in the body.Glucose is an incredibly important molecule. It is found in many healthy foods (like carrots and potatoes) and our bodies even produce it to make sure that we always have enough.In fact, every living cell on the planet has glucose in it… because this molecule is absolutely vital to life.Whereas every cell in the human body can metabolize glucose, the liver is the only organ that can metabolize fructose in significant amounts.In the context of a high-carb, high-calorie Western diet, eating a lot of added fructose can wreak havoc on metabolic health.The liver gets overloaded and starts turning the fructose into fat, which gets shipped out as VLDL particles and raises blood triglycerides. Many researchers even believe that some of the fat can lodge in the liver and cause fatty liver disease.Although fructose doesn’t raise blood sugar levels in the short-term, it can on tribute to insulin resistance when consumed in large amounts.This can cause major increases in long-term blood sugar and insulin levels, strongly raising the risk of metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.Eating large amounts of fructose can also have various other harmful effects… such as increasing small, dense LDL particles and oxidized LDL (very bad), cause belly fat accumulation, to name a few.Here’s where it gets really interesting… Agave nectar is about 85% fructose, which is much higher than plain sugar.Keep in mind that none of this applies to whole fruit, which are loaded with fiber and make us feel full quickly. We are well equipped to handle the small amounts of fructose found in fruit.
This “Healthy” Sweetener is Even Worse Than Regular Sugar
If you must add some extra sweetness to your diet, agave nectar is absolutely not the way to do it.There are several natural sweeteners out there that are much healthier… including stevia, erythritol and xylitol.Agave nectar may just be the unhealthiest sweetener in the world. It makes regular sugar look healthy in comparison… and that is saying something.

Preferisco chiarire subito questo: io credo in un’alimentazione bilanciata che comprenda tutti i cibi in proporzioni giuste.
 Detto ciò sono convinta che bere questa tisana al mattino certamente possa mettere in moto il  nostro  metabolismo e aiutare a ripulire  e  depurare  il  nostro  corpo, specialmente dopo i periodi festivi durante i quali si tende a mangiare di più. Ecco quindi qualche spiegazione sugli ingredienti e il mio metodo di preparazione della tisana.

Innanzitutto bere questa tisana regolarmente, al mattino e a digiuno, stimola il fegato, organo primario ai fini della depurazione, e dà un avvio al sistema digestivo. Il fegato è l’organo che rilascia acido urico e crea la bile ai fini di eliminare le tossine dal nostro organismo. Mantenere fegato e sistema digestivo puliti e in forma aiuta a prevenire malattie croniche.

Il limone è un disintossicante naturale in quanto trasforma le tossine in sostanza digeribile. Oltre a contenere la vitamina C, il limone è ricco di antiossidanti ed elettroliti quali potassio, calcio e magnesio che facilitano la reidratazione del nostro corpo. Inoltre il limone stimola gli enzimi naturali del fegato contribuendo a ossigenare il corpo.

Il pepe  di  cayenna (che altro non è che peperoncino essiccato) è ricco di vitamina A e stimola il sistema circolatorio aprendo i capillari, facilita la digestione e aiuta a regolare gli zuccheri nel sangue. Inoltre, cosa molto importante, aumenta la temperatura del nostro corpo e mette in azione il metabolismo.

Lo zenzero è noto per tante proprietà: facilita la digestione, calma la nausea, allevia dolori muscolari e articolari, accelera la guarigione nelle malattie da raffreddamento e l’influenza. E così via: le sue proprietà sono tante. Quella che a me interessava di più è quella che grazie al suo effetto termogenico lo zenzero aiuta a bruciare calorie, sempre assunto all’interno di una dieta equilibrata. Infatti lo zenzero favorisce la digestione dei carboidrati e delle proteine. Questa tisana  va bevuta tiepida al mattino prima di ingerire qualsiasi altro alimento. Infatti quando ci svegliamo i nostri corpi sono disidratati. Il caffè, che noi siamo abituati a bere come prima cosa, ahimè è un diuretico dunque ci disidrata ulteriormente! Invece la tisana limone pepe di cayenna e zenzero non solo ci fornisce le proprietà appena descritte ma anche l’idratazione necessaria al nostro corpo dopo aver dormito. Dunque è un super stimolante mattutino per il nostro corpo!

Personalmente la prima volta che ho bevuto questa tisana ho pensato “bleah” ma poi ho capito innanzitutto di aver messo troppo pepe di cayenna, dunque il sapore era proprio troppo piccante… e poi ho anche capito che, golosa come sono io, non avrei potuto bere questa tisana senza dolcificarla. Dunque, senza ovviamente ricorrere allo zucchero, mi è bastata una puntina di miele per dolcificarne una tazza e renderla gustosa e dopo 4 giorni devo dire che al mattino mi fa piacere berla. Il caffè lo bevo dopo almeno mezzora dalla tisana, per dare tempo agli ingredienti di essere assorbiti dal corpo. Ma sinceramente, e chi ha letto il mio diario sa che se lo dico io la cosa si fa interessante: dopo questa tisana io il caffè me lo dimentico completamente… incredibile ma vero!

 1 limone fresco (bio è ovviamente meglio) 1 pezzo da circa 2 cm di zenzero fresco due pizzichi di pepe di cayenna o peperoncino in polvere 2 cucchiaini di miele o di sciroppo d’acero o d’agave (opzionale) N.B.: se non siete abituati a questi gusti si può anche iniziare con una tisana più diluita usando la metà del limone pepe di cayenna e zenzero e aumentando man mano che ci si abitua a gustarli!


Mettere a bollire circa mezzo litro d’acqua. Nel frattempo mettere in una teiera una metà del limone tagliato a pezzetti, il succo della rimanente metà, lo zenzero tagliato a fettine sottili e il pizzico di pepe di cayenna. Quando l’acqua bolle spegnere e lasciare per un minuto poi versarla nella teiera. Lasciare in infusione per una decina di minuti.


 Versare in tazza e, se si desidera dolcificare, mettere un pochino di miele direttamente in tazza e mescolare bene. Bere un paio di tazze al mattino appena svegli e poi continuare a bere la tisana durante la mattinata sempre aggiungendo il miele o lo sciroppo d’agave o d’acero se si desidera dolcificare.
